Fitness – The Postural Benefits of Practicing Superman Isometric Holds (A, W, T, Y)

Superman exercises are terrific movements for improving posture and developing strength through the posterior chain of muscles. Since many of us spend much of our days in a sitting position, it is common to develop long and weak gluteal muscles and, sometimes, weak erector spinae muscles. The benefit of practicing superman exercises regularly is that they will support and stabilize the spine, help to prevent low back pain, and provide an opportunity to practice meaningful postural habits.

Fitness – Advantages of a CSEP-CPT Certification

Certifications are an important part of the fitness industry. Certifications offer assurance to you, the client, that a fitness professional has shown a commitment to their profession by investing their time, effort, and energy in obtaining a reputable, recognized, and respected accreditation. There are a growing number of certification bodies, but not all are created equal. Over my years of working in the fitness industry, I have come to value a CSEP (www.csep.ca) certification over any other due to the following reasons:

  • The educational requirements needed to apply for certification
  • The rigorous theory and practical exams
  • The continuing education requirements in the form of Professional Development Credits

Fitness – Why I Create Exercise Spotlight Posters

A healthy lifestyle includes a consistent exercise program. Working as a fitness professional, I see a lot of people who recognize the importance of exercise, try really hard, but are a little bit misguided in their efforts. I see people that could benefit from an occasional reassessment of what they do, why they do it, and how they do it. Exercise Spotlight Posters are meant to operate as teaching tools by providing visuals to examine exercise technique and helping to familiarize yourself with the language of fitness.
